Patrick Mahomes established a new franchise record for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL season opener.

On Thursday, the Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 to kick off their quest for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl appearance.

During the game, Mahomes broke the Chiefs franchise record for all-time passing yards.With a 23-yard pass to Travis Kelce in the second quarter,

Mahomes surpassed legendary quarterback Len Dawson on the franchise scoreboard. Before the game,

Mahomes needed only 84 yards to overtake Dawson, and the three-time Super Bowl champion has added another accomplishment to his already legendary career.

With the game still in the balance, Arrowhead Stadium erupted in celebration as Mahomes completed the record-breaking pass to Kelce. 

The 28-year-old was able to evade a challenge by dropping his shoulder and rushing into space to find Kelce,

who had crossed the 35-yard line before being tackled at the 30-yard line.
