First "suspect" case of monkeypox reported in India; center promises "no cause of any undue concern"

On Sunday, the government announced the first "suspect" case of monkeypox in the nation, although it stressed that there is no need for excessive worry.

After being segregated in a special hospital, the patient is now stable.

The first "suspect" case of monkeypox (Mpox) in the nation was reported by the authorities on Sunday, although they stated there is no need for undue anxiety.

In a statement, the Union Health Ministry said that a young male patient who just left a nation where the disease is actively spreading has been identified as a possible case of Mpox in the nation.

The Union Health Ministry stated, "The patient has been isolated in a designated hospital and is currently stable."

It also stated, "The patient's samples are being tested to confirm the presence of Mpox."

The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) already did a risk assessment, and the development of this case is consistent with that assessment.

It is significant to remember that on August 14, 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) proclaimed mumps a public health emergency of global significance.
